Don’t let heel pain drag you down. Find out what might be going on.

It can be quite the frustrating situation when you’ve been looking forward to your daily run but your feet are in so much pain that you may have to stop your run short. If you are experiencing heel pain and you’re not sure why, then it’s time you turned to one of our very own Hackensack, NJ podiatrists--Dr. Edward Harris, Dr. Antonella Cella and Dr. Neil Goldberg--for some answers.

There are so many reasons why you might be experiencing heel pain and it is often difficult to tell what might be causing it without coming in to visit our Hackensack foot doctors for a proper diagnosis. Of course, throughout all the heel pain cases we have seen, here are typically the most common causes:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Heel spur
  • Bursitis
  • Arthritis
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Tarsal tunnel syndrome
  • Stress fracture

Runners and athletes are often more at risk for plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinitis, as are people whose work requires them to be on their feet for the majority of the day, but anyone can experience these conditions, even if they don’t hit the trails or workout often.

When should I visit a doctor?

While people often don’t want to overreact to their symptoms and make an unnecessary doctor's appointment, if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, then it’s time you sought immediate care:

  • Severe pain and swelling
  • The inability to bend your foot or trouble walking
  • Heel pain that is accompanied by numbness or tingling
  • Serious heel pain that manifested right after an injury

While these symptoms won’t require you to seek us out right away, you will still want to schedule an appointment with us if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Pain that still lingers even after walking or putting weight on your foot
  • Pain that lasts a few weeks, even with at-home care such as ice, rest and elevation

Don’t let heel pain get the upper hand. Nix foot pain and get back to your life again. Turn to Podiatry Foot and Ankle Institute in Hackensack, NJ for the care your feet deserve.
